Overview
The game progresses over a 180 day period. The game however does not run in real time, rather it is divided into 9 episodes or chapters in which the player is called to solve a particular challenge in a foreign nation. Each chapter has 8 - 10 minigame missions. Minigames can be repeated but they do not affect the story line once you exit the level.Your success is measured on how many lives you save and your management of game economy items like:
  • hospital beds - the capacity of the nation to care for the sick while they fight the virus. Also reflects the number health care workers at work, medical supplies
  • vaccine - the amount of vaccine that available to treat the virus. Depends heavily on if the virus mutates.
  • hygiene - the cleanliness practices of people in the city. Population knowledge of hand-washing, sneezing, and masks
  • morale - the status of people's sentiments. Panic is effected by media information, availability of food and water, utilities, the rate of people dying

Each chapter incorporates three types of mini-games – management, scientific and personal. The game progresses from chapter to chapter and is interrupted on occasion by a concurrently running “B-Story” involving your family. See the diagram below.

Since the mini-games have to be tightly coupled to the overall simulation, each chapter design description includes how it fits into the story, learning goals and the types of minigames. See two examples below.
